Wildland Insurance Fire Captain

IMMEDIATELY HIRING! FULL-TIME/Temporary Opportunity

WILDLAND FIRE CAPTAIN

$29 per hour

We are hiring Wildland Fire Captains in our insurance division. A Wildland Fire Captain in the Insurance Division oversees activities including fire prevention and mitigation, pre-fire assessment, and fire suppression. A Wildland Fire Captain in the insurance division reports to, and provides assistance to a Battalion Chief. In the absence of a Battalion Chief, the Fire Captain shall report directly to the Capstone Insurance Division Chief.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  1. A Wildland Fire Captain – Insurance Division, manages the day-to-day operation and maintenance of a fire station, or other site, and the apparatus and personnel assigned.
    Conduct wildfire safety checks and pre-fire planning inspections.
  2. Develop, direct, and participate in drills and training programs.
    Provide information to the public and participate in public relations events.
  3. A Wildland Fire Captain may act in the capacity of Battalion Chief as needed.
  4. Able to work any shift assigned, including nights, holidays, and weekends. Insurance division members may be assigned to an incident for 14 -21 days and be dispatched to fires in the western United States. Work hours are typically 8-hour days; however, hours may vary based on the job and/or customer needs.
  5. Wildland Fire Captains - Insurance Division, supervise the safe operation of company vehicles.
  6. Wildland Fire Captains – Insurance Division, conduct performance evaluations of assigned crew members as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma or GED
  2. Current CPR/AED certification
  3. Advanced first aid and/or EMT desired
  4. Valid driver license with good driving record
  5. Able to work any assigned shift, including nights, holidays, and weekends. Insurance division members may be assigned to locations in the western United States for 14 -21 days.
  6. Ability to pass a work capacity test conducted during the initial onboarding process
  7. Proficient in the use of a computer, iPad, etc., including systems such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other platforms for routine business use.
  8. Knowledgeable in current wildland firefighting practices and procedures, particularly in the wildland urban interface (WUI) environment.
  9. Prior wildland firefighting experience

Minimum required NWCG and FEMA courses:

  1. L - 180 Human Factors in the Wildland Fire Service
  2. S – 130 Wildland Firefighting
  3. S - 230 Crew Boss
  4. S - 231 Engine Boss
  5. S - 190 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior
  6. S – 290 Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior
  7. IS - 100 Introduction to the Incident Command System
  8. IS – 200 Basic Incident Command System
  9. IS - 700 Introduction to the National Incident Management System
  10. IS – 800 Introduction to the National Response Framework
  11. Q0426 Introduction to Fire and EMS Supervision and Management

Minimum Capstone Certification (within 60 days of hire):

Capstone – Insurance Captain Position Task Book (PTB)
