PROGRAM SUMMARY
As a result of the widespread damage and displacement, through the leadership of the Governor’s Office, the State of California has recognized the need for immediate and ongoing clean-up, repair, and humanitarian assistance. The 2025 January Wildfires Disaster Recovery National Dislocated Worker Grant (LA25 NDWG) project offers dislocated workers a Temporary Job position to aid in the recovery from the wildfire damage. Laborer and Humanitarian Aid positions will cover much of the clean-up and repair activities as well as assisting residents who are Wildfire victims access fundamental supports.
POSITION SUMMARY
We are looking for an enthusiastic and service-oriented Wildfire Recovery Laborer to join our team. Under the direction of the Senior Workforce Development Specialist of the Downtown/Pico-Union WorkSource Center, the Wildfire Recovery Laborer will be responsible for clean-up, repair, and clerical humanitarian assistance in affected areas from the fires. Position is based at PACE's partner organization, Altadena Community Center, in Altadena, CA.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a key representative at the Downtown/Pico-Union Worksource Center, the Wildfire Recovery Laborer is responsible for providing initial assistance to the Altadena Community Center and Altadena residents affected from the LA January Wildfires. This position will perform a range of duties related to the implementation of the LA25 NDWG funded program, including: clean-up/collection and repair, and humanitarian assistance (calls, scheduling, event implementation, sorting, and organizing).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
Cleanup/collection of fire debris (ash, burnt vegetation, remnants of all items/structures/natural and manmade materials that were destroyed and/or displaced by/during the 2025 LA Wildfires) throughout the building and its property
Repairing and restoring the Altadena Community Center by repainting or refinishing the fire damaged hard surfaces and replanting vegetation/landscaping around the property
Assisting with humanitarian aid efforts by taking calls to schedule and provide assistance to Altadena locals affected from the fires
Organize, schedule, prepare, and plan events within the Altadena Community Center aiding locals affected from the fires
Assist with clean-up and sorting of the center’s remaining contents (between damaged, but salvageable and the completely destroyed – including the only surviving historical archive of Altadena and its founding)
Cleaning residue, smoke, ash, and soot from the fire damaged documents/materials
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
Must have experienced a layoff (temporarily or permanently) Because of the January 2025 Wildfires; experienced a layoff and is defined as a Dislocated Worker per WIOA Section 3(15); is long-term unemployed; OR is self-employed and has/had become unemployed or underemployed due to the January 2025 Wildfires.
Must have legal authorization to work in the United States
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Must have excellent interpersonal skills, be a team player and be able to work with diverse populations to provide in-person and over-the-phone services.
Strong organizational skills
Possess excellent communication and written skills, as well as telephone and people skills.
Must have excellent time management and organizational skills to effectively provide humanitarian aid to wildfire victims
Must be okay with physical labor
Must be able to comply with OSHA requirements
Must be available to work evening and weekend hours as needed.
