Job summary

Sage Steppe Wild seeks a Staff Attorney committed to aggressive conservation litigation across the American West, with emphasis on the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem. You should be a recent law graduate or close to it, ready to fight bad agency decisions and industry threats in a small nonprofit setting.

You will litigate, draft appeals, and represent the organization in administrative proceedings and federal court, bringing legal writing and research excellence to a mission-driven team.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school (bar admission or pending admission required — tell us your plan if you’re not yet admitted)
  • A demonstrated passion for environmental, natural resources, administrative, or public lands law
  • Strong logic, legal writing and research skills
  • Willingness to hone these by working closely with our experts
  • The willingness to go toe-to-toe with well-funded and powerful opposition and not back down
  • Genuine humility to match the fight — you know the law, but you’re not the expert on wolves, sage grouse, trout, water, or soil or agency rules

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with our experts to develop cases, litigate and negotiate on behalf of wildlife, habitat, and public lands across the West
