Job summary

Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers is seeking an experienced Nutrition Coordinator for the WIC program in Wisconsin. You will implement nutrition policies, supervise staff, and ensure high-quality nutrition assessments, counseling, referrals, and documentation.

The role requires an RD/RDN credential, a nutrition degree, and prior WIC experience. Strong communication and cultural competency are essential; bilingual Spanish/English is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Nutrition Coordinator for the local WIC project and implement nutrition and food package policies.

• Develop training plans and internal procedures to enhance staff understanding and execution.
• Oversee culturally appropriate, participant-centered nutrition activities in the WIC clinic.
• Act as preceptor for students/interns or supervise preceptors for WIC Nutritionists.
• Ensure annual trainings and continuing education documentation for Nutrition and Breastfeeding staff.
• Collaborate with external programs to enhance WIC services and resources.
• Analyze evaluations and ROSIE data to coordinate nutrition services and policies.

Job description

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Serves as the Nutrition Coordinator at the local WIC project; is responsible for implementation of all nutrition and food package policies and procedures in the Wisconsin WIC Operations Manual.
• Supervises, trains and evaluates WIC Nutrition staff, ensuring nutrition assessment, counseling, referrals, food package assignment and documentation are appropriate and in compliance with WIC policy.
• Develops training plans, guidance materials and/or internal procedures for site staff as needed to enhance understanding and ability to execute initiatives.
• Provides oversight to all nutrition-related activities in the WIC clinic to ensure they are culturally appropriate, participant centered, and follow current, evidence-based recommendations.
• Serves as a preceptor for dietetic and dietetic technician students and interns or oversees precepting activities assigned to appropriate WIC Nutritionist.
• In collaboration with WIC Director, ensures required annual training is provided to all WIC staff and documentation of Nutrition and Breastfeeding staff’s continuing education requirements is maintained.
• Collaborates with external programs, organizations and healthcare providers to enhance services and resources for WIC participants.
• Participates fully in the WIC Management Evaluation, including pre-visit preparation and responding to findings. Analyzes and evaluates results of Management Evaluations.
• Attends required agency and WIC sponsored state and regional meetings as appropriate and incorporates information learned into WIC project services.
• Resides on WIC and/or SSCHC committees and workgroups as appropriate.
• Facilitates team meetings, committee work and/or continuing education opportunities for direct reports.
• Promotes program integrity by assisting WIC Director with program fraud and abuse prevention.
• Completes certifications, mid-certifications, and nutrition education in order to keep abreast of participant needs, WIC policies and procedures and to ensure adequate service coverage at all times.
• Performs hemoglobin and blood lead testing as well as participant weighing and measuring in order to keep abreast of policies and procedures and to ensure adequate service coverage at all times. Oversees the quality of these health screening services.
• Oversees the development, implementation and modification of nutrition and health education materials, media messaging, lesson plans, and classes per State WIC policy.
• Analyzes ROSIE reports and other available data to coordinate nutrition services, plans and policies.
• In conjunction with WIC Director, provides support/maintenance of clinic equipment.
• Investigates participant complaints and addresses accordingly.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Registered Dietitian and must maintain RD or RDN credential during employment and is a Certified Dietitian (CD) in the State of Wisconsin.
• Holds a bachelor’s degree in the field of nutrition from an accredited college or university and has a minimum of 2 years of job-related experience or holds a master’s or doctoral degree in nutrition from an accredited college or university and has a minimum of 1 year of job-related experience.
• WIC Program experience highly preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
