Job summary

Montrose County is seeking a Public Health Nutrition Clerk to support WIC services in a clinic setting. You will determine eligibility, explain program benefits, collect health data, and tailor food packages to meet client needs.

The role requires strong customer service, data entry, and ability to work with diverse populations. The position emphasizes confidentiality, collaboration with the WIC team, and adherence to program protocols.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent; an Associate’s degree in Nutrition (Diet Technician) or another medical certification is highly desirable.
• Minimum of one year customer service in a general office setting; WIC or Public Health experience with low income clientele preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication; English proficiency required; bilingual abilities in Spanish may be preferred.
• Ability to organize materials and present information clearly; knowledge of laws, rules, and SOPs relevant to the position.

Responsibilities

• Determines and documents WIC eligibility, identifies risk factors, enrolls clients and reevaluates eligibility.
• Explains the WIC program and nutritional risk factors to clients to prevent misuse and ensure understanding.
• Performs health assessments including heights, weights, and biochemical measurements and graphs data accurately.
• Determines food packages tailored to individual needs and documents tailoring.
• Issues benefits via EBT card and activates cards through phone system.
• Designs and carries out education plans; sets goals and referrals; tracks progress and reevaluates goals.
• Maintains equipment cleanliness, accuracy, and safety; supports nutrition education material development.
• Maintains client confidentiality and ensures regular, predictable attendance.
