Job summary

Axis Community Health in Pleasanton, CA is seeking a WIC Nutrition Educator Coordinator to provide nutrition, breastfeeding, and health education to WIC participants under the Program Director.

You will conduct assessments, develop care plans, document in WIC Wise, and coordinate annual nutrition services plans while assisting in classes and trainings. This is a 0.75 FTE position with a flexible schedule.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Food or Nutrition Science is required.
• Minimum of one year of experience in nutrition counseling; prior WIC experience preferred.
• Registered Dietitian (RD) preferred.
• Bilingual preferred.
• Ability to relate in a supportive and non-judgmental manner to all participants.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry in WIC Wise.

Responsibilities

• Provides nutrition education counseling and support on nutrition, breastfeeding, and health related issues to participants in a timely manner under the direction of the WIC Program Director.
• Develops nutrition care plan and required documentation in WIC Wise.
• Allows participant to select nutrition goal and provides referrals as needed.
• Provides staff in-service trainings as needed.
• Maintains accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of participant information, services, and data in WIC Wise.
• Participate in staff meetings, and attend other meetings and training events as assigned.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Women, Infant and Children (WIC) Program Director, the WIC Nutrition Educator Coordinator provides nutrition, breastfeeding, and health education services to WIC participants, ensuring timely support, confidentiality, and compliance with WIC policies and procedures. Conducts participant assessments, develops individualized care plans and goals, documents services in WIC Wise, and responds to nutrition and breastfeeding inquiries, referring participants to the International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) as appropriate. Assists in developing and implementing the annual Nutrition Services Plan and education schedule, facilitates nutrition and breastfeeding classes, provides staff training as needed, attends required meetings and trainings, and performs other related duties to support WIC program operations.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Food or Nutrition Science is required.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience in nutrition counseling. Prior WIC program experience is preferred.
• Registered Dietitian (RD) is preferred.
• Bilingual preferred.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

• Provides nutrition education counseling and support on nutrition, breastfeeding, and health related issues to participants in a timely manner under the direction of the WIC Program Director.
• Develops nutrition care plan and required documentation in WIC Wise.
• Allows participant to select nutrition goal and provides referrals as needed.
• Provides staff in-service trainings as needed.
• Uses appropriate nutrition education materials.
• Enters correct food prescription in WIC Wise and issues benefits.
• Answers and responds to nutrition and breastfeeding questions.
• Maintains an acceptable productivity rate.
• Communicates with health providers at needed.
• Provides breastfeeding and nutrition education classes to WIC participants.
• Provides referral to IBCLC when work is out of scope of practice.
• Demonstrates consistent compliance with WIC policies and procedures.
• Under the direction of the WIC Program Director, completes the nutrition education component in the annual nutrition services plan.
• Under the direction of the WIC Program Director, develops class lesson plans and annual class schedule.
• Maintains accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of participant information, services, and data in WIC Wise.
• Participate in staff meetings, and attend other meetings and training events as assigned. Completes required WIC trainings as needed.
• May be required to perform other related duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned.
