Job summary

The Florida Department of Health in Polk County is seeking a HEALTH SUPPORT SPECIALIST to provide basic medical services and clerical support for the WIC program. The role works under the Nutritionist Supervisor to support eligibility, education, and health screenings in Lakeland, FL.

Responsibilities include anthropometric measurements, data entry into FL WiSE, immunization screening, inventory management, staff training, and outreach.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of WIC program procedures and FL WiSE data system.
• Ability to operate computer, printer, scanner, and calculator.

Responsibilities

• Performs height, length, weight and hemoglobin measurements on WIC eligible clients.
• Documents anthropometric and hematologic data in FL WiSE per procedures.
• Screens immunization records and documents status in FL WiSE.
• Calibrates equipment and maintains cleanliness per protocol.
• Completes Missing Bloodwork Report quarterly and submits to clinic manager.
• Maintains inventory of medical supplies at base site and advises on quantities.
• Trains new staff on techniques and annual competency checks.
• Determines financial eligibility for the WIC Program.
• Issues WIC benefits and maintains electronic WIC files.
• Provides nutrition education and assists clients in goal setting.
• Educates clients on program rules and benefits.
• Completes program reports and attends staff trainings.
• Assists with outreach activities and quality improvement monitoring.
