Job summary

Shepherd is reshaping wholesale insurance in the U.S., launching a dedicated wholesale brand across E&S Property, Casualty and Financial Lines. You will lead the new wholesale underwriting function and shape product strategy, distribution, and risk appetite to scale the business.

Based in a major U.S. city, you will partner with Product, Engineering and Data to implement robust underwriting guidelines, authority structures and broker partnerships.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in wholesale and E&S commercial P&C with leadership roles
• Proven track record building or scaling wholesale business or channel
• Strong relationships with national and regional wholesale brokers
• Deep knowledge of E&S business, wholesale dynamics, regulation, and agreements

Responsibilities

• Launch Shepherd's new wholesale business and brand.
• Define wholesale strategy: products, classes, appetite, brokers, growth and loss targets.
• Work with Underwriting leadership to establish wholesale-exclusive classes and new E&S products.
• Hire product underwriting leaders and develop guidelines, authority, referral rules, rating approaches and forms.
• Structure distribution with wholesale broker partners; onboard brokers and negotiate producer agreements.
• Collaborate with capacity and reinsurance partners to secure E&S paper behind the program.
• Design a frictionless submission-to-bind workflow with Product, Engineering and Data.
• Own premium, profit, loss, retention and expense results for the wholesale unit.
