Job summary

Carter Lumber in Bowling Green, KY is seeking a Whole House Designer to create roof trusses, wall panels, and EWP designs from customer blueprints for fabrication. You will ensure timely, accurate drawings and coordinate with production teams to meet design standards.

The role requires MiTek experience, familiarity with truss software, and strong math and plan-reading skills, along with solid communication abilities. This is a full-time on-site position with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• MiTek experience required; SE trained is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of basic construction concepts.
• Experience using truss software is required.
• High level of knowledge in trusses, wall panels and EWP.
• Strong math, geometry and trigonometry skills.
• Ability to read architectural and structural plans.
• Analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Designs roof trusses, wall panels and EWP floor designs from blueprints for fabrication.
• Creates working drawings, completes designs for production and assembly.
• Evaluates designs to ensure standards are met.
• Reviews specifications and drawings to identify design factors for walls, trusses and engineered wood components.
• Communicates with production teams, customers and sales to ensure design accuracy.

Job description

A Carter Lumber Whole House Designer is responsible for designing roof andtrusses, wall panels, and EWP for quoting and production. Ensures drawings are produced accurately and timely based off of blueprints provided by customers. Requires the knowledge of commonly used framing concepts and practices within the construction industry. A strong belief in the mission and goals of the company are necessary to this position.

Requirements to be Considered for this Position:

• MiTek experience required; SE trained is preferred
• Knowledgeable in the basic aspects of construction
• Previous experience using truss software
• High level of knowledge in the application of trusses, wall panels, and EWP
• Competency in basic mathematics, geometry and trigonometry
• Knowledgeable in reading architectural and structural plans
• Ability to analyze, trouble shoot and problem solve
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook

Responsibilities of the Position:

Designing:

• Creates roof trusses, wall panels, and EWP floor design illustrations based from blueprints to produce working drawings for fabrication.
• Completes and finalizes designs for production and assembly.
• Evaluates designs to ensure that design standards are being met.

Analyzes and Troubleshoots:

• Reviews and analyzes specifications, blueprints, engineered drawings and related designs to determine factors affecting design of the wall, truss and engineered wood components.

Support:

• Communicates with production teams, customers and sales to ensure designs are accurate throughout the process. Assists sales in responding to questions/concerns from customers.
