Description:
This position is based in Pennsylvania, USA. The primary responsibility of the Whipper-In is to assist the Huntsman in training and hunting the hounds (Hunting days: August - March, 3 days a week). Additionally, duties include caring for horses and hounds and maintaining the Hunt property and country grounds (Year-round). This is a full-time, salaried role with a 6-day work week, including health and retirement benefits, an annual bonus, and 2 weeks paid time off during the non-hunting season. Housing may be provided on a case-by-case basis.

Major Duties:

  • Assist huntsman with hunting, exercising, and training hounds on foot and horseback.
  • Groom and care for horses in the stables daily, including tack and equipment maintenance, transport, and stall cleaning.
  • Work with Huntsman and Groom to exercise and train staff horses.
  • Participate in countryside maintenance such as trail clearing and jump building.
  • Maintain the Hunt property, including mowing, trimming, gardening, snow and ice removal, fence repair, painting, and equipment and building maintenance.
  • Learn the 'Hunt County' and hound names to provide optimal sport.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs and run short distances.

Additional responsibilities as needed:

  • Transport hounds for veterinary care and breeding.
  • Assist with Kids Hunt Camp, Cheshire Races, and other Hunt activities.
  • Fill in for Huntsman or Groom during days off or vacations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic equine care.
  • Confident riding of various horses, including cross-country over fences.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Organizational Relationships: Reports directly to the Huntsman. Must work well within a team environment.

Professional Development: As directed by the Masters.
