Job Description

AltaGas is seeking a passionate and interested individual in procurement, strategic sourcing, and supply chain management for the role of Category Manager III within our Supply Chain Management (SCM) team. You will manage assigned spend categories, business unit partners, suppliers, and internal relationships (e.g., Legal, AP, Risk, Audit) to ensure the organization has the necessary goods and services to operate effectively and deliver value to stakeholders.

AltaGas, a Canadian corporation, is a leading North American infrastructure company focused on delivering resilient and durable value through its diversified Utilities and Midstream business. While this position primarily supports the US Utilities segment (Washington Gas Light Company and SEMCO), it is part of our broader SCM team within the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) organization. The role is based at the WGL Springfield Operations Center in Northern Virginia, with a hybrid work requirement of at least 3 days in the office weekly.

You Will:
  • Collaborate with SCM leadership and business units to develop and maintain annual Category Plans, including spend analysis, supply market analysis, should-cost modeling, risk assessments, sourcing strategies, and target setting.
  • Execute plans and handle ad hoc requests to meet targets through strategies like RFx processes, supplier negotiations, and demand management.
  • Lead negotiations and contracting, ensuring policy compliance, risk mitigation, and impact analysis.
  • Manage initiative outcomes and contract approvals, stakeholder relationships, and internal partner coordination.
  • Monitor category performance using KPIs, identify improvement areas, and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship, contribute innovative ideas, and support SCM operations and performance improvements.
In this role, you are expected to:
You Have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or Supply Chain Management (preferred).
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Passion and interest in procurement, strategic sourcing, and SCM.
  • Deep understanding of Category Management and Strategic Sourcing frameworks.
  • Experience with contract negotiations and understanding of contract terms.
  • Analytical and strategic thinking abilities, curiosity, and good questioning skills.
  • Financial analysis skills, initiative, and multitasking ability.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and strong collaboration skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting to senior management and influencing outcomes.
