Job summary

Ducks Unlimited, in partnership with NRCS, seeks a Wetland Biologist to support wetland conservation and restoration across Indiana. The role provides technical assistance for ACEP/WRE, collaborates with landowners, and delivers habitat management strategies to improve wetlands and wildlife habitat.

The position emphasizes field work and coordination with NRCS staff, conservation partners, and private landowners, with opportunities for growth and training in landscape-scale conservation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Biology, Fisheries Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, Conservation Biology, Agriculture, Environmental Science, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of two years of professional experience in wetland management, restoration, ecology, wildlife management, or related natural resource disciplines preferred.
  • Experience with private lands conservation programs, habitat restoration projects, or Farm Bill programs is highly desirable.
  • Combination of office and extensive field work required.
  • Ability to travel throughout Indiana; occasional overnight travel may be required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in remote locations and under adverse weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct technical assistance for ACEP, Wetland Reserve Easement (WRE) component.
  • Assist private landowners with wetland determination, restoration, creation, and management activities.
  • Conduct site visits and field assessments to determine feasibility and outcomes.
  • Develop wetland habitat management plans and recommendations.
  • Utilize wetland ecology, hydrology, vegetation, and wildlife needs for restoration guidance.
  • Assist with tree planting, native grasses, and water-level management plans.
  • Monitor and evaluate restoration projects and easements for effectiveness.
  • Prepare CUAs and other WRE documentation as needed.
  • Coordinate with NRCS staff and partners to maximize benefits.
  • Promote participation in Farm Bill programs and private lands conservation initiatives.
  • Assist with wetlands workshops, outreach, and training activities.
