Job summary

ORION is seeking an experienced Equipment Operator to move construction materials and prepare job sites for wet utility installation. You will operate backhoes, excavators, bulldozers, and other equipment, performing routine maintenance and safety checks on a daily basis.

You will work 8–12 hour shifts, including weekends as production demands require. The role requires strong teamwork, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to read site plans and grade stakes.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience operating earth-moving and construction equipment.
• Knowledge of wet utility installation, trenching, and grading procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret grade stakes, site plans, and project specifications.
• Work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly with supervisors and crew members.
• Be able to work in variable weather and site conditions.

Responsibilities

• Fastens attachments, buckets, blades, and other equipment components securely to machinery.
• Operates earth-moving and utility construction equipment safely and efficiently.
• Performs pre- and post-operation inspections to ensure equipment functioning properly.
• Performs routine maintenance such as greasing, fueling, cleaning, and basic repairs per manufacturer guidelines.
• Monitors gauges, indicators, and controls for safe operation.
• Collaborates with crew members and supervisors to ensure accurate excavation, grading, and material placement.
• Assists with setting grades, slopes, and trenches to project specifications.
• Maintains equipment and tools for long-lasting use and optimal performance.
• Reports malfunctioning equipment promptly to supervisors.
• Adheres to safety protocols and company policies; performs other duties as assigned.
• Keeps confidential information secure as required.
