Job summary

Strittmatter Companies seeks an experienced Wet Utilities Foreman to lead field crews in underground utility installation across the Metropolitan DC area. You will supervise water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage work, review plans with leadership, and coordinate daily activities to ensure production targets are met while maintaining safety and quality on site.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of wet utility construction experience (water, sewer, drainage).
• Minimum 2 years leading or supervising a crew.
• Strong knowledge of wet utility installation methods, trench safety, bedding, backfill, compaction.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, utility profiles and specs.
• Valid driver’s license; pre-employment drug screening and background check.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise wet utility crews on water, sewer, and drainage installs.
• Review plans, grade stakes, and daily work orders with Superintendent/PM.
• Coordinate daily crew activities, equipment, materials, and logistics.
• Ensure proper installation of pipes, manholes, catch basins, and related components.
• Monitor trench depth, alignment, slope, connections, backfill, and compaction.
• Maintain safety focus: trench safety, locates, PPE, traffic control.
• Conduct daily safety meetings and address hazards.
• Train and coach pipelayers, laborers, and operators.
• Track production, hours, materials, and equipment usage.
• Communicate progress and material needs to Superintendent/PM.
• Inspect tools and sites for safety and maintenance.
• Maintain organized, clean, and productive job site.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

We are currently seeking an experienced Wet Utilities Foreman to lead field crews on underground utility installation projects. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage installation, along with the leadership skills needed to safely manage crews, equipment, materials, and daily production.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise wet utility crews performing water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage installation.
• Review project plans, utility profiles, grade stakes, and daily work assignments with the Superintendent and Project Manager.
• Coordinate daily crew activities, equipment needs, material deliveries, and job-site logistics.
• Ensure proper installation of pipe, manholes, catch basins, inlets, valves, structures, and related utility components.
• Monitor trench depth, bedding, pipe alignment, slope, connections, backfill, and compaction to ensure work meets project specifications.
• Maintain a strong focus on safety, including trench safety, utility locates, equipment safety, traffic control, and PPE requirements.
• Conduct daily safety meetings and address job-site hazards before work begins.
• Train, coach, and support pipelayers, laborers, and equipment operators.
• Track daily production, labor hours, materials, and equipment usage.
• Communicate progress, challenges, schedule concerns, and material needs to the Superintendent or Project Manager.
• Inspect tools, equipment, and work areas to ensure they are safe, properly maintained, and ready for use.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and productive job site.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of wet utility construction experience, including water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage installation.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience leading or supervising a construction crew preferred.
• Strong knowledge of wet utility installation methods, pipe grades, trench safety, bedding, backfill, compaction, and utility structures.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, utility profiles, grade stakes, and specifications.
• Experience coordinating heavy equipment, crew members, subcontractors, and material deliveries.
• Strong communication, leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physical field work as needed.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
