Job summary

Johannigman Excavating, Inc. is seeking a Working Foreman to lead a 4-person utility crew in installing underground water, sewer, and storm systems. This role blends leadership with hands-on field work.

The ideal candidate will have strong communication, practical underground utility experience, and the ability to read plans and site drawings, while maintaining safety and accurate daily reports. You will support project managers, coordinate equipment, and promote a positive, productive team

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• 3+ years in underground utility installation, with at least 1 year in a lead role.
• Strong knowledge of pipe installation, trench safety and grading.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specs.
• Capable of using electronics to fill reports and view drawings.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

Working Foreman – Utility Crew

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Working Foreman to join our 4-person utility crew. This person is responsible for leading a 4-person pipe crew in the installation of underground utilities including water, sewer, and storm systems. This position requires a working foreman who can both manage and participate in daily field operations. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, excellent communication, and hands‑on experience in underground utility construction.

Responsibilities:

• Supervise, coordinate, and work alongside crew members in the installation of water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage systems.
• Read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and grade stakes.
• Ensure that all work is performed safely, efficiently, and to company and project specifications.
• Operate and oversee the use of heavy equipment, including excavators and loaders, as needed.
• Manage daily work schedules, material needs, and equipment assignments.
• Communicate effectively with project managers, equipment operators, and inspectors.
• Maintain accurate daily reports and ensure jobsite documentation is complete.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.
• Lead by example to promote teamwork, professionalism, and a positive work environment.

Physical Requirements:
