Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Omaha is seeking a Youth Sports Coach to guide youth in games and practices while upholding YMCA values. You will provide safe coaching, communicate with families, and help participants develop fundamentals in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities include organizing practices, coordinating schedules, adhering to policies, and ensuring equipment is maintained and returned after each season. This role emphasizes safety, respect, and positive youth development.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of sport rules and coaching principles.
• CPR/AED and First Aid preferred (training opportunities available).
• Ability to facilitate safe and educational meetings and team practices.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to create a safe and nurturing environment.
• Complete abuse prevention training and background check prior to first shift.

Responsibilities

• Attend coaches meeting and complete all required training.
• Schedule practice times and locations.
• Facilitate weekly practices and games in a safe manner.
• Ensure YMCA policies and procedures are followed by participants and families.
• Maintain YMCA equipment and return at end of season.
• Share information with parents/guardians, including schedules, rules, and policies.
• Respond to YMCA staff in a timely manner and communicate changes.
• Use tools to ensure ongoing communication about schedules and activities.
• Provide feedback to improve participant and volunteer experiences.

Overview

YMCA Youth Sports Coaches act as a positive role model by maintaining a safe environment through RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, HONESTY, and CARING.

Responsibilities

• Successful completion of child abuse prevention training and background check

GeneralDuties

Management & Planning:

• Attend coaches meeting and complete all required training
• Schedule practice times and locations
• Facilitate weekly practices and games in a safe manner
• Ensure YMCA policies and procedures are followed by participants and families
• Maintain YMCA equipment & return at the end of each season

Communication:

• Share information with parents/guardians, including but not limited to practice and game schedules, sports rules, YMCA policies and procedures, etc.
• Respond to YMCA staff in a timely manner including practice times and locations
• Utilize tools to ensure on-going communication about schedules
• Share information to help participants develop fundamental understanding for the game
• Share feedback with YMCA staff to improve experience for participants and volunteers

Qualifications

• Support YMCA staff and officials during practice and games
• Act as mandatory reporter and ensure all youth are safe
• Follow youth boundaries policies and abuse risk management training.
• Report suspicious behavior, policy violations, and adhere to mandated abuse reporting and responsibilities.
• Complete all required abuse prevention training prior to first shift.
