Overview

In accordance with education-based athletics, Assistant Coaches will work with Head Coaches to develop an effective coaching program plan which includes skill development, practice planning, supervision of all levels of the sport, focusing on individual and team growth while instilling the highest ideals of character. Assistant Coach will effectively communicate with Head Coach, student-athletes, parents, & administration.

Job Description

• Terms of Employment: 12-month

Qualifications

• Teachers or certificated professional educators employed by the local Board of Education.
• Persons certifiable as professional educators by the State Department of Education according to 13A.12.01.
• Credentialed Coaches meeting the following requirements:
• Eligible to hold a Maryland certificate under COMAR 13A.12.01.
• Possess a MPSSAA/MSDE Coaching Certification.
• Completed two years of successful coaching as an emergency coach.
• Spent the previous one year as a successful emergency coach at the school of hire in the position of hire.

Essential Job Functions

• Adhere to all policies in the Charles County Public Schools Extra-Curricular Handbook and enforce all policies pertaining to athletics and organization sponsorship.
• Assist with pre-season meetings and report directly to the head coach.
• Set an example of good moral and physical behavior.
• Make recommendations for improvements and equipment needs.
• Prepare for practices, secure facilities, and supervise all activities.
• Maintain equipment, enforce rules, and ensure eligibility requirements are met.
• Supervise players during practices, games, and trips, ensuring conduct and safety.
• Attend games, meetings, and assist with team records and budget planning.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

Ability to visit various locations, stand, walk, kneel, lift up to 50 pounds, and possess good hand-eye coordination and visual acuity.
