About the Role

HR Business Partner (West Region)

Canopy is hiring an experienced HR Business Partner to support our growing portfolio of tree care companies across the Western U.S. This full-time, exempt role reports to the Chief People Officer and works closely with regional leadership. You’ll act as the primary HR contact for the West Region (~250 employees), building relationships and implementing people strategies.

This remote role requires based in the Pacific or Mountain time zones, with monthly travel to company sites and quarterly trips to Chicago HQ.

You will handle daily HR support and lead projects like developing performance management tools, compensation models, and career frameworks. Strong execution skills and adaptability are essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with regional leadership on workforce planning, change management, and team dynamics.
  • Build strong relationships with GMs, regional presidents, and local teams.
  • Provide guidance on employee relations, performance, compensation, and organizational changes.
  • Lead cross-company projects like job leveling and performance reviews.
  • Support companies in adopting effective HR practices, including succession planning.
  • Navigate different company cultures while respecting each brand’s uniqueness.
  • Collaborate with payroll, benefits, and recruiting teams.
  • Use data to monitor trends such as turnover and engagement.
  • Ensure compliance across states and fair policy application.
  • Create HR tools and processes from scratch.
  • Maintain records in Inova HRIS and use Excel for reporting.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years supporting field-based or multi-site HR functions.
  • Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with operational teams.
  • Strong business acumen and practical HR approach.
  • Experience in employee relations, performance management, and organizational change.
  • Resourcefulness and ability to operate independently.
  • Trust-building and influencing skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities without extensive structure.
  • Proficiency in Excel and learning new systems.
  • Comfort with diverse company cultures; bilingual skills in Spanish are a plus.
