YMCA of Oshkosh is seeking a Wellness Specialist to support the Group Exercise and FOREVERWELL programs. You will assist with program setup, equipment maintenance, member communication, and attendance tracking while promoting a welcoming environment.

The role requires 21+ years old, strong communication skills, and the ability to teach a variety of fitness classes, including sessions for active older adults.

Qualifications

• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise Instructor or equivalent.
• Senior Fitness Specialty Certification such as Tivity preferred but not required, willing to complete within six months of hire.
• Minimum two years of experience teaching a variety of fitness programs.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication; ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist members in a courteous, professional manner.
• Assist with data entry and day-to-day operations for Group Exercise initiatives.
• Teach a variety of fitness classes and cover classes as needed.
• Maintain Group Exercise rooms and equipment at all locations.

GENERAL FUNCTION:Under the direction of the Director of Group Exercise and Engagement, the Wellness Specialist will provide administrative and operational support for the Group Exercise and FOREVERWELL programs. This position assists with program setup, studio and equipment maintenance, member communication, attendance and participation tracking, promotional materials, and creating a welcoming and engaging environment for members. This role requires a detail-oriented, self-motivated individual who can work independently while collaborating effectively with staff, instructors, and members. The ability to instruct a variety of group exercise classes, including classes for active older adults, is preferred. The Wellness Specialist will demonstrate a commitment to exceptional member service and contributes to the achievement of the YMCA's Christian mission and purpose. The Wellness Specialist will exhibit the core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility in all aspects of their work with the Y.MEMBER ENGAGEMENT:Greet and assist all members, potential members and staff in a courteous, professional and friendly manner. Be enthusiastic towards members by learning their names and expressing an interest in their Y activities; especially participation in group exercise classes and FOREVERWELL programming events. Strive to enrich their Y experience by building effective relationships with members and helping members connect with each other and the Y; introducing them to new programs, staff, members, and volunteer activities. You will cultivate lasting relationships with members building the foundations for members achieving their goals.JOB SEGMENTS:To assist with data entry and day-to-day operations for all initiatives and programs led by the Director of Group Exercise and EngagementAnswers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living.Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the Y.To maintain certifications and keep current with the latest in fitness trends.To fill in and teach classes to avoid the cancellation of regularly scheduled classes as needed.To be able to teach a variety of fitness classes.To organize and maintain Group Exercise rooms/studios at all locations.To attend meetings and trainings per directive of the Director of Group Exercise and Engagement.To lead a healthy lifestyle and reflect the four core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.Certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED, and YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise Instructor OR Equivalency of one of the Y-USA recognized equivalent certifications. An additional Senior Fitness Specialty Certification such as Tivity preferred but not required and willingness to complete within six months of hire. Experience teaching a variety of fitness programs for a minimum of two years. Demonstrated ability to be adaptable and able to adjust to changing processes, priorities, technology, and operational needs as required. Must be 21 years of age or older.A high level of written, oral, and people-oriented communication skills and the ability to work independently and handle numerous projects concurrently are required.
