Job summary

California State University’s University Student Union seeks a Specialty Instructor to develop and lead wellness routines for mixed-ability groups, including yoga, meditation, Reiki, breathing and art, with formats chosen by the department.

The role emphasizes safety, adaptability, and clear guidance; must hold relevant health or wellness certifications and maintain them; a background check is required.

The position is part-time, with tiered hourly pay from $23 to $43 depending on experience.

Qualifications

• Tier I requires no teaching experience; Tier II requires 1 year teaching group classes; Tier III 2 years; Tier IV 4 years; Tier V 6 years with masters or advanced certification.
• Each tier requires at least one credential from health-related degrees or wellness certifications or related specialty trainings.
• Current American Red Cross Certification (adult CPR, AED and first aid) required; must obtain within 30 days if not held.

Responsibilities

• Instruct live classes to groups of 3 or more people in approved formats the instructor is certified/trained in
• May record videos in approved formats the instructor is certified/trained in, as requested by the Manager
• Plan and execute routines that are safe and appropriate for participants of all levels
• Provide options and educate participants on how to select activities based on their abilities
• Initiate emergency response procedures, as needed
• Promote Oasis programs and events through in-class announcements, as instructed
• Promote proper theory and technique
• May assist with special programs, services or projects on occasion
• Perform other related duties as assigned
