Job description

Join us to apply for the Wellness Coordinator role at Crossroads YMCA.

Position Summary

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The coordinator is responsible for assisting in program operation, development, participant satisfaction, member and staff retention, safety, staff supervision, onboarding, training, and coaching. As a Coordinator, you will lead an environment that is inviting and inclusive for all.

Essential Functions

  1. Support the department in establishing new program activities and expanding within the community in accordance with strategic and operational plans.
  2. Adhere to the organization's policies and procedures.
  3. Provide shift supervision while working 80% of the time as direct service.
  4. Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, developing, and evaluating team members.
  5. Manage payroll functions and schedule staff accordingly.
  6. Demonstrate fitness equipment and provide explanations to members and guests.
  7. Support campaign efforts and donor engagement within the community and among team members.
  8. Model relationship building through active listening and engagement.
  9. Respond promptly to member and community inquiries and complaints.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Technical Functions

  1. Maintain CPR/First Aid certification.
  2. Follow exercise science principles and comply with YMCA and nationally recognized fitness guidelines.
  3. Support members' wellness goals related to healthy living.
  4. Avoid prescribing diets, supplements, or diagnosing illnesses; refer members to healthcare professionals when necessary.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Effective communication skills (visual, auditory, verbal).
  • High alertness, concentration, and initiative.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs., stand, walk, or sit for extended periods, and occasionally stoop/bend.
  • Maintain a professional appearance.
  • Potential exposure to extreme heat during summer months.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of related experience preferred.
  • Current nationally recognized personal training and/or group exercise instructor certification(s).
  • Ability to obtain Y-USA Strength and Conditioning and/or Foundations of Group Exercise certifications within 30 days.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for diverse populations.
  • Independent, organized, and detail-oriented with good computer skills in Office 365.
  • Flexible working hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, with on-call availability.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
