Job description

Under the supervision of the Healthy Living Director, the Wellness Attendant is responsible for ensuring the safety, supervision, and friendly atmosphere of the Wellness Floor. This includes engaging members during workouts, assisting with equipment questions, and maintaining cleanliness and order on the floor.

The Wellness Attendant manages these functions in accordance with the mission and policies established by the YMCA's administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Model relationship-building skills in all interactions and develop collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintain clear communication within the area of responsibility.
  2. Engage members and guests on the wellness floor consistently during each shift.
  3. Deliver extraordinary service with a servant-minded attitude.
  4. Listen actively to members and respond promptly and appropriately.
  5. Effectively problem-solve, taking responsibility to resolve issues and follow through to completion.
  6. Maintain the wellness floor area by cleaning equipment regularly, ensuring equipment safety and functionality, and restocking towels as needed.
  7. Create positive experiences through Cause-Driven tours for prospective members.
  8. Administer Wellness Orientations to new members, explaining rules and equipment use.
  9. Identify members using unsafe or ineffective techniques and offer helpful suggestions.
  10. Engage members with high-touch interactions and open-ended questions to increase their involvement and ownership of the YMCA.
  11. Enforce YMCA policies and procedures on a case-by-case basis.
  12. Be familiar with YMCA emergency procedures and respond promptly and appropriately.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be at least 16 years old.
  2. Courteous, outgoing, and able to intentionally engage a diverse membership daily and during shifts.
  3. Strong ability to connect with members and facilitate member connections.
  4. Maintain a positive attitude, prioritize members, and perform all tasks with a servant-minded mentality and strong work ethic.
  5. Certified by the YMCA in Basic Life Support/First Aid and Emergency Oxygen within the first 30 days of hire.
  6. Fitness certification is not required but highly desirable. A general interest and knowledge in wellness are essential.
  7. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups from all social and economic backgrounds.
  8. Multilingual skills are a plus but not required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands include standing, reaching, moving around, occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds, and having specific vision abilities. The noise level is usually moderate. The role requires sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions and supervise activities.
