Job summary

Landis Homes is seeking a Wellness Assistant to support and coordinate fitness and wellness programs for residents. You will work with Healthcare, Personal Care and Residential Living teams to design safe exercise classes and health education.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in kinesiology or related field, CPR certification, and 2+ years of fitness work with older adults. This on-site position offers day-time shifts and benefits from day one.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in kinesiology/related field.
• Current CPR certification required.
• Shallow Water Lifeguard certification preferred.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience as fitness trainer with older adults.
• Proficient with computers and related tech.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support exercise programs and coordinate wellness education for residents.
• Motivate residents to participate in classes and activities.
• Lead safe, age-appropriate fitness and wellness classes.
• Assist in intake forms and electronic processes.
• Plan events like Senior Games and Wellness Fair; staff occasional events.
• Back-up lifeguard duty for Aquatic Center as needed.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and volunteers.

Wellness Assistant

- Monday to Friday day shifts

- 48 hours bi-weekly

Supports the exercise programs and coordinates wellness-related educational programs at Landis Homes. Works with groups and individuals in Healthcare, Personal Care and Residential Living, developing fitness and educational programs.

- Supports a campus-wide fitness program that promotes the positive physical, social and psychological benefits of exercise for residents. Emphasis is on safe exercises that increase cardiovascular functioning, strength, balance and flexibility. Works with individuals with a wide range of physical and cognitive abilities.

- Motivates residents to use exercise opportunities and participate in classes.

- Orients residents and team members to safe and effective use of exercise opportunities. Leads tours and demonstrations of the fitness area and Life Trail Stations.

- Designs and leads preventative health and wellness/exercise classes.

- Tracks and assists in electronic processes for intake forms.

- Works with Wellness and Life Enrichment teams to plan and carry out special events and educational programs that promote exercise, such as Senior Games and the Wellness Fair. Takes a turn staffing occasional special events.

- Assists in the development of forms and documentation for Wellness Center programming.

- Supports Wellness programming offered to Personal Care and Healthcare residents as coordinated with the interdisciplinary team.

- Works supportively with volunteers who assist residents in the wellness programs.

- Participates in wellness networking with staff of other retirement communities and promotes inter-community interactions.

- May serve as back-up lifeguard in the Aquatic Center as needed.

- Participates in the cleaning of the wellness center as needed.

- Relates well with residents, clients, family members, team members and the community.

- Demonstrates dependability, competence, accuracy and is observant.

- Adheres to compliance policies regarding confidentiality, HIPAA regulations, and resident and client rights.

- Complies with regulatory agency standards and applicable policies and procedures.

- Complies with safety and infection control protocols in all aspects of the job.

- Demonstrates understanding of the Code of Conduct and abides by its guidelines in all aspects of the job.

- Attends in-services and team meetings as required for role.

- Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in kinesiology, physiology or related field preferred.

- Geriatric fitness/exercise certification preferred.

- Has and maintains current CPR certification.

- Has, or willing to obtain, Shallow Water Lifeguard certification.

- Minimum 2 yearsexperience as fitness trainer having worked with older adults preferred.

- Proficient in use of computer and related technology required for the role.

- Good verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills required.
