Job summary

Wildewood Downs in Columbia, SC, is seeking a Fitness Assistant to support wellness programming and deliver fitness sessions aligned with campus needs. You will design and lead classes, promote safe practices, and monitor resident progress while collaborating with the Wellness Director and other staff.

The role emphasizes compassionate care for seniors, with a focus on physical and mental health, safety, and positive resident interactions in a team-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Group Exercise Certification is desired.
• ACSM, ACE, AEA, or AFAA certifications are desired.
• CPR certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Implements exercise, wellness and senior health standards on campus in line with policies and regulations.
• Designs and leads fitness classes tailored to campus residents.
• Ensures safety and proper progression of residents in all classes.
• Maintains attendance records for all classes and reports progress to the Wellness Director.
• Coordinates wellness and exercise opportunities with community partners and campus staff as needed.
• Educates participants on self-protection from infectious diseases and promotes safety measures.
• Communicates changes in resident conditions to the Wellness Director and other staff.

We’re looking for a Fitness Assistant:

This position is responsible for implementation of wellness programming and delivery of fitness according to the specific needs / programs of the campus.

Here are a few of the daily responsibilities:

• Implements standards of exercise, wellness and senior health on the campus while operating the wellness components in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the governing body in compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
• Designs and leads fitness-based classes specific to the campus population. Instructs classes or routines based on the determined level, health and mobility of the resident in order for the resident to gain in physical / mental health or to maintain current physical or mental status.
• Ensures the safety and proper progression of residents participating in all responsible classes.
• Maintains daily attendance records for all classes and progression of residents participating in the classes instructed. Reports this data to the Wellness Director.
• Coordinates wellness and exercise opportunities with community agencies, physicians, families, residents, consultants, and other departments within the campus, if needed.
• Educates fitness participants as to self-protection from infectious diseases and promotes other safety precautions.
• Communicates with the Wellness Director, Administrator, other staff, or health care professionals any changes in resident conditions or abnormal behavior.

Here are a few of the qualifications we need you to have:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
• Group Exercise Certification desired.
• Certifications from ACSM, ACE, AEA, or AFAA desired.
• Certification in CPR required.
