Job summary

The Greenbrier Companies seeks skilled Weld Techs to train welders, coach on quality welding practices, and adjust welding equipment in our Marmaduke, AR facility. You will read blueprints, follow procedures, and produce quality welds in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities include equipment troubleshooting, maintaining safety standards, and supporting production through hands-on welding and process audits.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2+ years in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-the-job welding training for new hires and existing welders.
  • Coach welders on quality welding practices to ensure weld integrity and tolerances.
  • Adjust welding machines using calibrated instruments to control gas flow, wire speed, and voltage.
  • Troubleshoot welding equipment and perform minor repairs to guns and leads.
  • Perform production welding as required to support manufacturing needs.
  • Assess welding procedures and methods for quality and safety compliance.
  • Ensure safety and housekeeping standards are met and maintained.
  • Audit welding processes and assist maintenance during equipment downtime.

Summary

The Weld Tech provides on-the-job training of welders, coaches quality welding, adjusts welding machines, troubleshoots welding equipment, production welds when needed, and assists in assessing weld procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Provides on-the-job training of welders when they are assigned to a new job, but particularly when they are initially employed.
  • Coaches welders on quality welding skills and practices to ensure that welds remain structurally sound, aesthetically pleasing, and within tolerances.
  • Adjusts welding machines using calibrated instruments to measure gas flow, wire speed, and voltage.
  • Troubleshoots welding equipment, both manual and semi-automatic, and repairs welding guns and leads.
  • Performs production welding during those times when production supervision requires such assistance.
  • Assesses welding procedures and methodologies in plant.
  • Ensures that safety and housekeeping standards are met and maintained.
  • Audits welding processes
  • Monitors welding equipment set up and assists maintenance during equipment break downs.
Qualifications

The following generally describes requirements to successfully perform the assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 2+ years experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to accurately demonstrate visual inspections for safety, equipment and processes, parts and welding processes
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions including mechanical drawings, blue prints and schematics
  • Ability to work both alone and in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to receive and interpret information and communicate it accordingly
  • Ability to make quick, effective judgements to resolve problems or navigate challenges
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalency test/GED
  • 2+ years experience in welding in manufacturing environment

This position is in a production environment with exposure to heat, cold, noise, moving machinery and trip hazards where personal protective equipment such as head, eye, hearing, and foot protection, including composite toed safety shoes, are required.

This position may be exposed to welding, machining, forming, metal surface treatment, laser cutting, plasma cutting, and other metal working and assembly processes.

Additional PPE may be required as determined by the environment.
