Job summary

IAPMO is seeking a Welding Engineer to advance welding process technology and controls across mill operations in the United States. You will collaborate with production, maintenance and QA to define and institutionalize best practices for SAW, GMAW, and SMAW welding, and develop training and documentation for operators and welders.

The role emphasizes KPI monitoring, process parameter optimization, and staying current with welding innovations while engaging vendors for method improvements.

Qualifications

• 2+ years welding in steel manufacturing.
• Thorough knowledge of AWS D1.1/1.5, ASME IX, API 5L, API 1104.
• Experience solving problems and using statistics to improve KPI’s.
• Experience presenting to management on project results.
• Experience writing technical reports and next steps.
• Public speaking with diverse staff.
• Collaborate with hourly and management ranks to solve problems.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance and mentorship to welding technicians and process engineers.
• Develop and implement best practices for welding set-up and process controls.
• Create training for SAW, GMAW and SMAW welding techniques.
• Approve WPS/PQR and weld parameters for SAW processes.
• Determine key process control parameters for welding technologies.
• Develop WPS/PQR and SWCCD documents for seam and girth welding.
• Establish KPI database and shift-based welding KPI reports.
• Monitor welding machines and related equipment performance.
• Recommend changes to improve safety, quality, reliability, and productivity.
• Oversee troubleshooting guide development for welding setup and defects.
• Contribute to training programs for maintenance on SAW equipment.
• Evaluate and trial new suppliers/consumables.
• Stay current with welding tech and vendor collaborations.
• Document solutions for welding quality issues.
