Job summary

WEC Group Training Academy (MTL Rotherham) is hiring a Welding Instructor to train apprentices in MIG and TIG welding. You will deliver the Level 3 Plate Welder Apprenticeship Standard, onboard new learners, and foster practical skills in a safe, supportive environment.

The ideal candidate has strong welding experience and enjoys mentoring others, with a proactive, independent approach to coaching and development. DBS check required; role is on-site.

Qualifications

• Excellent practical welding experience.
• Experience in teaching or mentoring is desirable but not essential.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and mentor apprentices.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and support the Level 3 Plate Welder Apprenticeship Standard.
• Provide onboarding for new apprentices in a professional, engaging way.
• Teach MIG and TIG welding techniques with emphasis on safe practices.

Salary: Up to £21.00ph DOE

Previous teaching, training or assessing experience is desirable but not essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver and support the Level 3 Plate Welder Apprenticeship Standard.
• Provide a professional and engaging onboarding experience for new apprentices.
• Teach a range of welding and fabrication techniques, with a focus on safe working practices.
• Assess apprentice performance and provide constructive feedback to support continuous improvement.
• Support apprentices throughout their learning journey, helping them build confidence and technical competence.
• Maintain training equipment and workshop facilities to the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
• Promote a positive learning culture that encourages excellence and continuous development.

About You

We’re looking for someone with excellent practical welding experience who enjoys coaching and developing others.

You’ll have:

• Strong hands-on experience in MIG and TIG welding.
• A solid background in fabrication and the ability to interpret engineering drawings.
• Excellent communication and mentoring skills.
• The ability to motivate, coach and support apprentices of varying abilities.
• A proactive approach with the confidence to work independently and use your own initiative.
• A genuine passion for developing the next generation of engineers.

Please note: A basic DBS check is required for this role. The cost will be covered by WEC Group.
