Job summary

Texas State Technical College (TSTC) is hiring an Instructor to deliver approved welding curriculum in an applied learning environment. You will enable student growth through engaging activities, assessments, and feedback, integrating technology to enrich experiences and serving as a program ambassador.

The base salary is anticipated to be $72‑78k+ annually, with a potential $2k per semester retention bonus and full state benefits including paid health insurance and retirement with matching.

Qualifications

  • Verifiable industrial welding experience in welding and fabrication.
  • Proficiency in GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SMAW on plate and pipe; Plasma and Oxy‑Acetylene cutting.
  • Successful completion of an on-site weld test.
  • Blueprint reading and pipe-fitting theory applications.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver high quality instruction and facilitate student learning.
  • Develop syllabi and instructional plans, organize daily classes with innovative techniques.
  • Maintain schedules, records, and a safe instructional environment with equipment safety.

Job Description

TSTC faculty deliver approved curriculum, content, and assessments in an applied learning environment. The role includes facilitating activities and discussions to engage a range of learning styles, interpreting and administering assessments, and offering constructive feedback to support student growth and learning outcomes.

A key part of the role is to integrate technology effectively to enrich the educational experiences and act as ambassadors for their programs and TSTC. The base salary for this position is anticipated to be $72‑78k+ annually, with a potential $2k per semester retention bonus and additional incentives, along with full state benefits including paid health insurance, generous time off, and retirement with matching.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and deliver high quality instruction and facilitate the learning of students.
  • Develop course syllabi and instructional plans, and organize daily classes using creative and innovative techniques.
  • Fulfill the assigned schedule, maintain accurate student records, and ensure a safe instructional environment with equipment security.
  • Provide student advisement and ensure timely, accurate, and comprehensive information.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Student Success to provide students with current information on tutoring and other programs designed to increase retention.
  • Participate in related tours and recruitment events and assist in department/program planning for recruitment.
  • Demonstrate willingness to serve and exhibit courteous behavior toward students, parents, employers, media, coworkers, and the public.
  • Maintain flexibility, including availability for evening, weekend, or summer assignments.
  • Work effectively in a team environment to support the mission, vision, and values of the college.
  • Mentor and coach students, providing personalized guidance, fostering open communication, and offering constructive feedback.
  • Create and use assessments to guide learning and continually evaluate and improve teaching strategies.
  • Effectively use technology to enhance learning experiences.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Required:
  • Verifiable industrial work experience in the welding and fabrication industry.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in all welding disciplines, including GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, and SAW on plate and pipe, as well as Plasma and Oxy‑Acetylene cutting procedures.
  • Successful completion of supervised weld test on site.
  • Proficiency at blueprint reading and pipe‑fitting theory and its application.
  • Preferred:
  • Two years or more teaching experience.
  • NDTE experience and a strong metallurgical background.
  • More than three years industrial experience in welding and fabrication.
  • AWS D1.1 or D9.1 certifications.
  • NCCER certification.
  • OSHA 30 education and experience.
