Job Description

Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC), located in the Shenandoah Valley, offers associate degrees, certificates, workforce training, and special interest classes. We seek a part-time welding instructor to teach courses involving SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and FCAW welding processes at or above AWS 3G, 4G, & 6G levels.

This position is limited to 1500 hours annually, with no benefits. Potential for educational assistance and certifications exists. Valid driver’s license, background check, and driving record check are required.

Special Assignments

Perform other duties as assigned. Assist in emergencies as needed.

Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a state vehicle
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to manage online homework programs
  • Effective communication with diverse student populations
  • Industry skills in SMAW and GTAW welding in the 6G position
  • Knowledge of shop safety and PPE
  • Understanding of metal fabrication, pipe fitting, and weld machine setup
  • Ability to pass welding qualification tests in SMAW & GTAW in 3G, 4G & 6G
  • Ability to read blueprints with weld symbols
  • Proficiency in operating welding shop equipment and tools
  • Physical ability to lift 75 lbs and stand, walk, bend, push as needed
  • Good eyesight, corrected to 20/20
  • Patience, attention to detail, manual dexterity
  • Availability for weekend instruction
  • Ability to tow a trailer
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with AWS D1.1 and ASME Sect. IV welding codes
  • Industry-recognized welding certifications
