Job summary

Detroit Public Schools Community District seeks a Special Instructor, Welding at Randolph Career Technical Center to assist the Day Trade Teacher with in-class instruction and to help implement core instructional practices for students. Salary ranges from $42,883 to $46,373 annually, with benefits. This position is in-person and reports to the Principal.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED and related vocational experience, plus strong technical aptitude and problem‑solving skills.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED certificate required.
  • Two (2) years or 4000 hours of related work experience in the vocational content of the teaching assignment.
  • Ability to work with high school-aged youth on foundations in the vocational content.
  • Strong technical aptitude and entry-level problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with reading and comprehension of terms related to the vocational content.
  • Instruct students in the vocational content area.
  • Work with students individually on safety rules for printing hardware.
  • Review material with students prior to assessments.
  • Maintain classroom discipline and follow school policies.
  • Support the Day Trade Teacher with attendance and grades.
  • Present subject matter using lectures, small groups, and demonstrations.
  • Pursue professional development and training.
