Job description

Meyer Utility Structures is searching for a Plant Welding Instructor. In this role, you will administer the Hager City, Wisconsin utility pole manufacturing plant's welder training program (pole school). The Plant Welding Instructor will have strong hands‑on welding skills, visual weld inspection experience, and experience training and testing welding candidates.

What You’ll Do:
  • Oversee the daily pole school operations.
  • Maintain welder candidate training, testing, and qualification records.
  • Perform hands‑on welder candidate training for the FCAW, SAW, SMAW, plasma/oxy‑fuel cutting, and air‑carbon‑arc gouging processes.
  • Conduct classroom training on welding safety, welding, and cutting processes, visual weld acceptance criteria, welding symbols, drawings, etc.
  • Perform hands‑on, pole layout and fit‑up training.
  • Provide additional training (OJT) to production welders as required.
  • Assist in qualifying welding procedure specifications as required.
  • Participate in welding improvement projects or other duties as required.
What You’ll Need:
  • Bachelor’s degree or 5+ years of equivalent experience.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in FCAW, SAW, SMAW, plasma/air carbon arc, and layout/fit‑up experience, preferably in the utility structure industry.
  • Able to effectively present classroom training and hands‑on welding application training.
  • Proficient in conducting AWS D1.1 welder qualification tests and generating welder qualification records.
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and/or AWS Certified Welding Educator (CWE) desired.
  • Proficient in using various weld inspection tools such as amp/volt/wire feed/gas flow meters, fillet weld gauges, undercut gauges, etc.
  • Able to read and comprehend welding symbols, welding procedure specifications, work instructions, drawings, bill of materials, etc.
  • Possess written and oral communication skills. Bilingual (Spanish) desired.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
