Job summary

Meyer Utility Structures in Steele, Alabama, part of Arcosa, Inc., seeks a Plant Welding Instructor to lead the pole school welding program. You will train technicians, conduct hands-on and classroom instruction, and ensure code-compliant welding across pole locations.

The role requires strong FCAW, SAW, SMAW, and inspection experience, with AWS CWI/CWE preferred. Bilingual Spanish is a plus; familiarity with AWS D1.1 tests and records is expected.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of FCAW, SAW, SMAW, plasma/air carbon arc experience.
• Ability to present classroom and hands-on welding instruction.
• Proficient in AWS D1.1 welder qualification tests and records.
• Welding-related associate degree desired.
• AWS CWI and/or CWE desired.
• Proficient with welding inspection tools.
• Able to read welding symbols and related docs.
• Spanish language skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Train, coach and develop Welding Technicians to ensure safe, consistent, and code-compliant welding practices.
• Provide hands-on and classroom welding instruction using approved procedures.
• Demonstrate proper welding techniques, joint preparation, and equipment setup.
• Instruct Welding Technicians on utility pole weld applications and repair standards.
• Evaluate weld quality and provide corrective feedback and coaching.
• Support welder qualification, certification and re-certification testing.
• Reinforce standardized welding practices across pole school locations.
• Mentor Welding Technicians to improve skill level and workmanship.
• Promote and enforce safe welding practices and PPE requirements.
• Ensure training aligns with welding codes, procedures and specifications.
• Drive weld quality improvements through skill development and instruction.
• Drive throughput.
