Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe projects, verifying fit-up, preheat, WPS compliance, and performing visual inspections to AWS D1.1 or governing codes while maintaining weld maps and logs.

The ideal candidate has AWS CAWI certification or 3+ years welding/inspection experience and the ability to sit for the CWI exam, with reading of drawings and capability to work at height on active erection sites.

Qualifications

• Reads structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Requires attention to detail and accuracy in weld inspection.
• Able to work at height, in confined spaces, and on active erection sites.
• Must be careful, consistent, and honest about what a weld looks like.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT (UT, MT, PT) with the NDT technician and record results.
