Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welding. You will verify fit-up, weld map, and inspection logs, and ensure WPS compliance and welder qualifications.

You’ll gain hands-on experience with AWS D1.1 and the CWI path, with the company sponsoring the CWI exam. The role requires travel to active job sites and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• AWS CAWI or 3+ years welding experience and CWI exam eligibility.
• Ability to read structural drawings and weld symbols.
• Physically able to work at height and in confined spaces.
• Honest and careful about weld quality.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual inspection under CWI supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or the governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Coordinate nondestructive testing with the NDT technician and record results.
