Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welding. You will verify fit-up, preheat, WPS compliance, and perform visual inspection to AWS D1.1, while maintaining weld maps and logs.

The position supports growth toward Welding Inspector II, with AWS CWI exam sponsorship. Pay ranges from $28 to $36 per hour, with travel to project sites from Sugar Land HQ and per diem as assigned.

Qualifications

• CAWI certification or 3+ years welding inspection experience.
• Ability to read structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Physically able to work at height and in confined spaces on active sites.
• Careful, honest assessment of weld appearance and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for disposition by the CWI.
• Coordinate NDT (UT, MT, PT) with the NDT technician and record results.
