Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I to work under a CWI on structural steel and pipe welding. You will verify fit-up, inspect visually to AWS standards, and maintain weld maps and logs, tying each weld to a welder, procedure, and result.

This role offers growth toward Welding Inspector II through company-supported AWS CWI exam preparation. Pay ranges $28 to $36 per hour, with early starts and possible overtime; travel to project sites and per diem may apply.

Qualifications

• AWS CAWI certification or eligibility for CWI exam.
• Reads structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Physically able to work at height, in confined spaces, on active sites.
• Careful, honest about weld quality.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT (UT, MT, PT) with the NDT technician and record results.
