The Welding Inspector oversees the quality and safety of all company welding activities. This position is responsible for inspecting and assessing the strength and quality of welds, ensuring the correct equipment is being used, checking weld specifications, and ensuring all safety regulations are being adhered to. To ensure success as a welding inspector, the person in this role must have advanced knowledge of modern welding procedures, successfully analyze defects, track issues and provide solutions.

Requirements

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead by example with a Safety First mindset in every task
  • Maintain traceability throughout shop on weld maps and drawings
  • Read fabrication drawings, details, and section views
  • Utilize a tape measure, square, bevel square, weld gauge, or proper tools on fabricated materials per the blueprints
  • Inspect weld quality, fit-up of parts, and hydro of parts
  • Determine if welded products and structures meet the acceptance and quality criteria of a specific code, standard, or document
  • Accurately complete all required paperwork
  • Complete Nonconformance and Corrective Action reports
  • Complete Root Cause Analysis with Action Plan reports
  • Review Certified Material Test reports
  • Compile and submit completed inspection reports in a timely manner
  • Communicate findings with other employees, supervisors, and client personnel
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy environment by adhering to legal, company, and customer safety standards, practices, and regulations.
  • Additional duties as assigned

Education, Experience & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a steel fabrication environment (fab Shop, job shop, plate work, etc.)
  • Minimum 1-year experience in structural steel and/or pressure vessel fabrication
  • Minimum of 1-year experience with structural steel fabrication
  • Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 code and ASME Standards
  • Previous industry related inspection experience
  • ASME and CWI certification

Preferred

  • Non-destructive testing experience

  • Bending/Stooping: Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or reach to perform tasks (e.g., retrieving items, accessing low areas).
  • Reaching: Ability to reach overhead or extend arms forward to perform job-related tasks.
  • Manual Dexterity: Ability to use hands for fine motor tasks (e.g., typing, handling tools, or operating machinery).
  • Vision: Ability to see clearly (with or without correction) to perform tasks (e.g., reading documents, observing equipment, etc.).
  • Hearing: Ability to hear (with or without hearing aids) to effectively communicate with others and understand verbal instructions or safety alerts.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, as this position may require interacting with colleagues, clients, and supervisors.
  • Pushing/Pulling: Ability to push or pull objects depending on job function (e.g., equipment, carts, etc.).
  • Climbing: Ability to climb ladders or stairs to access areas such as storage or equipment. This may require balance and coordination.
  • Sitting: Ability to sit for extended periods (typically 1-2 hours) as required for certain job tasks (e.g., working at a desk, computer, or driving).
  • Work Environment: Work is split between an office setting and in the production shop area around machinery.
