Job summary

Moran Iron Works, Inc. is seeking a dynamic and skilled Welding/Fabricator Intern to support production and quality efforts, leveraging technical skills to help develop proactive quality control systems that drive quality, safety, and profitability.

You will assist in developing welding procedures, ensure ASME, AWS, and API code compliance, coordinate testing with labs, and support root-cause analyses to improve weld quality and reduce costs.

Qualifications

• Experience or coursework in quality control for welding/fabrication.
• Ability to collaborate across departments to improve processes.
• Fundamental welding knowledge and safety awareness.

Responsibilities

• Develop, write, and maintain welding procedure specifications (WPS) and PQR records.
• Ensure compliance with ASME, AWS, and API code restrictions.
• Coordinate qualification testing with metallurgical labs and witness welds.
• Support audits, track welder qualifications, and perform root-cause analyses.

Seeking to leverage technical skills to assist in developing and integrating a proactive quality control system that drives Quality, Safety, and Profitability. Dedicated to maintaining high accuracy, ensuring AISC compliance, and maximizing customer satisfaction. Eager to collaborate as a team player to elevate department performance, engaging cross-functional teams to lower costs, boost efficiency, and support revenue growth through a robust quality management system.

• Procedure Development: Assisted in developing, writing, and maintaining corporate Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) involving complex alloys and critical joints.
• Code & Standards Compliance: Reviewed blueprints, project specifications, and customer documents to ensure strict alignment with ASME, AWS, and API code restrictions.
• Testing & Lab Coordination: Coordinated qualification testing workflows with metallurgical laboratories and directly witnessed the welding of PQR test coupons.
• Quality Auditing & Analysis: Supported manufacturing teams by participating in regular process audits, tracking welder qualifications (WPQR), and conducting root cause failure analyses on welding issues.
