Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) invites applications for a field welder on our Engineering team in Laredo, TX. This safety-sensitive role performs precision metalwork, fabrications, and repairs on rail infrastructure outdoors, with some travel.

You will read blueprints, weld using stick and thermite methods, and collaborate with a team to keep equipment reliable. Candidates must be 18+, hold a Journeyman welder certification and a Class B CDL, plus a high school diploma.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Journeyman welder certification required.
• Valid Class B CDL preferred.
• Ability to read blueprints and interpret layouts.
• Experience with stick and thermite welding.

Responsibilities

• Perform precision cuts with oxy‑acetylene torches, air gouging, and lancing techniques.
• Fabricate and fit steel components per specifications.
• Repair structural bridge components using splice plates and reinforcement.
• Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and repair schematics.
• Order materials to maintain workflow and deadlines.
• Adhere to safety guidelines in a high‑risk outdoor environment.
• Adapt to outdoor work conditions in all weather.
