Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Welding Engineer (Starship) to join our welding team, developing, qualifying, and optimizing welding designs and processes for Starship assemblies. You will work daily with design and build engineers to drive welding improvements, conduct qualification tests, and integrate NDE techniques to ensure robust manufacturing and flight hardware readiness.

Ideal candidates hold a bachelor’s in engineering with hands-on welding experience; a master’s in welding engineering is a plus

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.
• 1+ years of hands‑on fabrication, manufacturing, or testing experience of welded assemblies.
• Willingness to work long hours and weekends as needed to support build schedules.
• Understanding of welding standards and testing methodologies (e.g., ASTM E8) and data interpretation.

Responsibilities

• Develop, qualify, and optimize weld processes and parameters for multiple welding processes (EBW, laser, TIG, MIG, etc.).
• Support production operations on full-scale welded assemblies in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Support design, manufacturing, and materials engineering with root cause analysis.
• Collaborate with design, tooling, automation, and development engineers to improve welded designs for manufacturing.
• Set up welding qualification test campaigns and interpret mechanical testing and NDE results.
• Work with NDE to interpret weld quality for development and flight hardware; develop state-of-the-art NDE techniques.
• Improve process control using test and NDE results as feedback.
• Set up automated welding solutions to drive process consistency.
• Scope out new welding technologies to improve rate, quality, and efficiency.
