Job summary

Wilson Trailer Company in Sioux City, IA is seeking a Welding Engineer to lead the design, development, qualification, and continuous improvement of welding processes used in our manufacturing operations.

You will develop welding procedures, qualify records, interpret drawings, investigate weld defects, and collaborate with engineering, production, quality, safety, and supply chain teams to boost quality, efficiency and performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering or closely related engineering discipline.
• Three to five years related experience; working knowledge of welding processes, metallurgy, fabrication methods, welding equipment, and engineering principles.
• Experience developing and supporting welding procedures, PQRs, welder qualifications, and production documentation.
• Certifications: CWI, CWE or CWEng preferred.
• English communication skills; reading, writing, and speaking clearly.

Responsibilities

• Develops, revises, and maintains welding procedures, work instructions, and technical documentation.
• Supports welding procedure qualification records (PQRs) and welding procedure specifications (WPSs) to ensure codes and customer requirements.
• Applies engineering principles to resolve manufacturing and welding challenges.
• Interprets drawings, production specs, and codes to ensure compliance.
• Investigates weld defects and implements corrective actions.
• Plans and evaluates testing of welding processes and materials to improve performance.
• Maintains welding and inspection procedures per regulatory codes and standards.
• Provides day‑to‑day technical support to manufacturing, quality, and inspection teams.
• Develops and maintains welding training programs and evaluates effectiveness.
• Collaborates with cross‑functional teams to improve weld quality, productivity, and safety.
• Analyzes production data and quality metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
• Keeps current knowledge of welding codes and emerging technologies.
