Job summary

Antares is seeking a Welding Engineer II to advance welding processes for reactor hardware. You will own procedure development, qualification, and production support, collaborating with design, materials, manufacturing, quality, and suppliers to ensure high-quality welds in stainless steels and nickel-based alloys.

The role emphasizes hands-on problem solving on the floor, with a focus on scalable, repeatable welding workflows, and compliance with engineering requirements across the full product

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 2+ years of welding engineering experience.
  • Experience with GTAW, GMAW, PAW, laser welding, or electron beam welding.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and weld symbols.
  • Familiarity with destructive and nondestructive testing methods for welds.
  • Welding metallurgy, heat-affected zones, distortion, and residual stress knowledge.
  • Experience leading welding procedures and welder qualifications.
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or similar qualification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, qualify, and maintain welding procedures, including Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and qualification records.
  • Select welding processes, filler metals, joint designs, shielding methods and process parameters.
  • Provide design-for-welding guidance related to accessibility, distortion, residual stress, inspection, and manufacturability.
  • Support welded hardware from prototype through production, inspection, testing, and final acceptance.
  • Work with welders, technicians, and suppliers to establish repeatable, high-quality fabrication processes.
  • Create manufacturing work instructions, weld maps, inspection criteria, and technical specifications.
  • Develop weld qualification plans, including destructive and nondestructive testing.
  • Review weld documentation and supplier records for compliance.
