Super Steel is seeking a driven Welding Cobot Operator in Mequon, WI. This role blends hands-on fabrication with modern automation, welding and tending cobot cells for high-quality results.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years in MIG welding or automated manufacturing, strong blueprint skills, and comfort with touch-screen tech. 2nd shift 2:30pm-11:00pm, OT available, full-time with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in production MIG welding, structural fabrication, CNC operation, or automated manufacturing.
• Strong ability to read industrial blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings.
• Comfort using precision measurement tools (calipers, tape measures, go/no-go gauges).
• Mechanical aptitude with tablets or touch-screen tech; cobot/robot experience is a plus.
• High attention to detail with focus on joint fit-up and weld integrity.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for the shift duration.
• Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Program and operate cobot weld cells to produce high-quality welds with touch-screen pendants.
• Set up, fixture, and change over cobot programs for high-mix production runs.
• Load/unload fixtures, heavy steel parts, and tooling for continuous workflow.
• Monitor cobot performance and adjust wire feed speeds, voltages, and paths.
• Inspect finished parts with calipers, gauges, and visual standards to AWS specs.
• Perform daily cobot maintenance, safety sensor checks, and weld gun care.
• Troubleshoot alignment, fixturing, sensors, or weld quality issues.
• Collaborate with welders, machinists, and engineers to optimize fixtures and cycles.
• Document production activity, QA checks, and any shift issues.

Job description

Position Summary

Super Steel is seeking a driven, tech-forward fabricator to join our team as a Welding Cobot Operator at our Mequon, WI facility. In this role, you will bridge the gap between traditional skilled craftsmanship and modern automation. You will support daily production by operating, maintaining, and continuously improving collaborative robot (cobot) systems used for high-quality welding, machine tending, and complex heavy fabrication processes.

This role blends hands-on metal fabrication with modern automation—perfect for a skilled welder or fabricator who enjoys problem-solving, working with their hands, and advancing their career with cutting-edge technology.

Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday.

2nd shift: 2:30pm-11:00pm, OT available.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate & Teach: Program and operate cobot weld cells to produce consistent, high-quality welds using simple hand-guiding techniques and touch-screen pendants.
• Setup & Changeover: Efficiently set up, fixture, and change over cobot programs for different part profiles and high-mix production runs.
• Material Handling: Load and unload fixtures, heavy steel parts, and specialized tooling to support a smooth, continuous workflow.
• Process Monitoring: Continuously monitor cobot performance, making manual adjustments to wire feed speeds, voltages, robot paths, or parameters to maintain perfect weld pools.
• Quality & Inspection: Inspect finished parts using calipers, tape measures, gauges, and visual standards to ensure every piece meets strict AWS and structural requirements.
• Cell Maintenance: Perform daily preventative maintenance, cleaning, and essential safety sensor checks on cobots, weld guns, and work cells.
• Troubleshoot & Optimize: Diagnose and resolve immediate issues related to part alignment, fixturing variances, sensors, or weld quality.
• Team Collaboration: Partner with manual welders, machinists, and manufacturing engineers to optimize fixtures, cycle times, and throughput.
• Data & Compliance: Document production activity, quality assurance checks, and any cell issues encountered throughout the shift.

Qualifications & Skills

• Fabrication Background: 2+ years of experience in production MIG (GMAW) welding, structural metal fabrication, CNC operation, or automated manufacturing.
• Blueprint Proficiency: Strong ability to read and interpret complex industrial blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings.
• Measurement Tools: Comfortable using precision measurement tools including calipers, tape measures, and go/no-go gauges.
• Tech Literacy: Mechanical aptitude with a strong comfort level using tablets, smart devices, or touch-screen tech (prior cobot or industrial robot experience is a plus, but not required).
• Precision Mindset: High attention to detail with an analytical focus on joint fit-up, part consistency, and weld integrity.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for the duration of the shift in a heavy manufacturing environment.
• Continuous Improvement: Support ongoing lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives across the fabrication department.
