Description
We are looking for an experienced Welder to join our production team. This position is responsible for the fabrication and welding of various components used in the manufacturing and repair of transformers. The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience with metal fabrication, welding techniques, and can interpret engineering drawings to ensure high‑quality and precise builds. The hours for this position are Friday to Sunday 12 hours, 5:00AM to 5:30PM, with a guaranteed 40 hours.
- Weld and assemble transformer components including:
- Transformer tanks (oil-filled or dry-type)
- Radiator fins and brackets
- Lifting lugs, base channels, conservators, and other structural parts
- Use MIG, TIG, and/or Stick welding techniques based on material and project requirements.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding specifications.
- Ensure proper fit-up and alignment of welded parts using jigs, clamps, and measuring tools.
- Perform grinding, cutting, and surface preparation prior to and after welding.
- Conduct pre‑weld and post‑weld inspections to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Repair cracks, leaks, or damage on transformer tanks or components as required.
- Operate hand tools, overhead cranes, forklifts, and other shop equipment safely.
- Maintain welding equipment and tools provided by the organization
- Communicate with engineering, quality, and production teams regarding design changes or fabrication issues.
- Ability to mentor novice welders in the area of welding and fabrication
- Support continuous improvement efforts in welding and fabrication processes.
- Following all safety protocols which includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), glove, safety glasses, etc.
- Maintain safe, clean, and orderly workstation.
- Other assigned duties as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; welding trade school or technical training preferred.
- 3-5 years of welding experience required
- Air arc gouging, plasma cutting, and stud gun experience required
- Proven experience in welding oil or liquid filled tanks required
- Complete and pass pre‑employment and annual respiratory fit testing in compliance with OSHA standards
- Proficient in welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick) on mild and stainless steel.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, engineering drawings and welding symbols.
- Knowledge of ASME or AWS welding codes is a plus.
- A proven track record in safety excellence is required.
- Adheres to all safety and environmental compliance regulations set by the organization. Notify management immediately of any safety concerns, hazardous conditions, or injuries.

- Physical requirements for this role include, but are not limited to the following:
- Lift 50lbs floor to waist and waist to shoulder multiple times
- Standing and walking for long durations
- Bending, squatting, and kneeling multiple times for long durations
- The ability to climb up and down a ladder multiple times
- Balance and stand on a ladder with three points of contact for extended periods of time
- Comfortable working in the heat and cold due to manufacturing facilities not being climate controlled
