Job description

Lyman-Richey Sand & Gravel Company, A CRH Company, has been supplying aggregate materials for construction and development projects for more than 130 years. What began with a single clamshell dredge and a horse and wagon has evolved into a large-scale production and trucking business with several plants in the Omaha metro area along Nebraska's Platte River.

Position Overview

Operates-Controls equipment to fabricate, repair and assemble metal structures and equipment using welders, cutters and measuring tools. Completes work tasks based on daily work request and to specifications. Operates multiple welding machines to repair and maintain metal equipment and structures of various sizes. Required to read and interpret diagrams, sketches and blueprints to determine operations, required materials and timeframes for projects. Welders set up, operate and maintain welding equipment.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Weld metal parts together using both gas welding or brazing any combination of arc welding processes.
  • Performs related tasks, such as thermal cutting and grinding
  • Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes and increases the size of metal parts.
  • Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
  • General maintenance and set-up of plants and dredges requiring welding skills of arc and wire-feed welding.
  • Completes projects using a variety of mechanical skills.
  • Operate fork lift.
  • Uses problem solving skills to complete various projects.
  • Performs all work in conformance with established company safety policies.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience

  • Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment, including cranes, is a plus.
  • Experience with pump repairs, bearing replacement, and hydraulics is preferred.

Work Requirements

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Report to the plant dressed appropriately and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work independently within in a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
