Training begins with welding safety and machine setup, progressing to basic welds within the first week. In weeks two and three, you will practice welding on components, followed by a simulated assembly line experience in week four. Successful completion of the program will transition you into a Welder I position on one of the following shifts: first shift (Monday–Thursday), second shift (Monday–Thursday), or weekend shift (Friday–Sunday). While a Welder-Trainee in the School of Welding you will learn how to set up parts for welding, utilize hand tools, clamps, jigs, and fixtures to ensure precision and quality, interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols to execute work accurately.
