Job summary

Mercer Valve Co. in Oklahoma City is seeking an entry-level Weld Technician to assist in the Weld Department, welding and prepping carbon steel valve bodies.

This full-time role involves reading engineering prints, handling parts, and maintaining accuracy of documentation on a day-to-day basis. The ideal candidate will be able to operate stick welding equipment, work independently or as part of a team, lift heavy parts, and adhere to safety practices.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Ability to read engineering prints/drawings.
• Proficient in stick welding and related prep work.
• Able to lift 51 lbs or more with assistance.
• Willingness to obtain SMAW101 certification.

Responsibilities

• Operate welding equipment using SMAW processes.
• Weld carbon steel valve bodies and bonnets.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and paperwork.
• Maintain parts and materials, ensure accuracy of paperwork.
• Sandblast and clean components as needed.
• Follow safety practices and departmental policies.

JOB SUMMARY:

Assist in the day-to-day functions of the Weld Department, including but not limited to the welding and prepping of carbon steel valve bodies.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Operation of various equipment using the stick welding processes.
• Read Engineering prints/drawings/documents.
• Work individually and as part of a team.
• Identify and verify parts and materials.
• Verify accuracy of paperwork as required.
• Periodically inspect tools and equipment for accuracy/deficiencies.
• Ensure job orders remain with parts at all times.
• Sandblast and clean various components while standing for long periods of time.
• Observe and follow all Safety practices dictated by the Weld Department Supervisor and company policy.
• Weld carbon steel valve bodies and bonnets.
• Work and assist in other departments as required and perform other duties as assigned.
