Responsibilities
Purpose of Position: Perform welding and metal preparation tasks such as sanding and grinding configurations.
Major Responsibilities:
- Use and properly care for PPE.
- Read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols to determine assembly methods.
- Read and interpret work orders.
- Use basic hand tools like tape measures and specialty equipment.
- Learn and operate all equipment within the work area (cell).
- Perform rework as required.
- Support APS (Altec Production System) initiatives and participate in RCI events.
- Be willing to move to other work areas to support production needs (cross-train).
- Lay out and mark dimensions and reference lines on materials, applying shop math and layout techniques.
- Perform MIG welding using arc and gas welding equipment.
- Inspect assemblies and components for conformance to specifications.
- Trim, file, grind, sand, deburr, buff, and smooth surfaces using hand and power tools.
- Willing to train new or current associates.
- Follow safety, environmental, and quality policies and procedures.
- Maintain work area and shop tools/equipment.
- Maintain daily time records.
- Perform other duties as assigned, which may vary by location.
Education, Experience, and Skills Required:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Vocational training is preferred.
- AWS D.1.1 weld certification required.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to read tape measures, blueprints, and schematics.
- Proficient in welding and mechanical skills.
Other Position Specifications:
- Maintain a clean work area (5S).
- Assist co-workers and group leads as needed.
- Participate in RCI events.
- Knowledge of Altec programs and systems.
- Shift work may be required.
