Job summary

Summary

To perform welding activities in support of maintaining systems, components, and structural facilities of PVNGS to ensure unit reliability.

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years experience in welding craft.
  • Must meet requirements of ANSI 3.1 1978, ALS certifiable to ASME Section IX, XI and AWSD 1.1.
  • Demonstrate journeyman competence in layout, fit up and welding techniques for system component maintenance, also be able to obtain standard NRC clearance.
  • Testing: EEI MASS Test administered.
Nuclear requirement

Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) and will be expected to fulfill their obligation as an ERO member. This is a condition of employment at PVNGS. Roles and Responsibilities are defined in Policy 1503 and implementing policy guide are applicable to all PVNGS employees. Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to support a refueling or short-notice outage, including line roles and responsibilities as necessary to execute outage activities.

Major Accountabilities
  • Lays out, fits and welds metal components to repair, replace systems/structures in accordance with procedures.
  • Performs related tasks such as thermal cutting, grinding, heat treatment, qualifying additional weld procedures for use on site.
  • Responsible for safe rigging, moving of equipment utilizing overhead and mobile cranes and other station equipment.
  • Fabricate special tooling and assist other crafts in job functions including coordination with Radiation Protection, OPS and Security.
  • Prepares proper documentation of work activities to ensure adequate work history.
  • Conducts OJT for helpers and apprentices in safe, and professional work functions of a welder.
  • Attends and maintains a passing score in all required classes and training.

Testing Information

Tests are only administered to referred candidates. More information about our tests and the testing process can be found HERE.

A computer-based skills test, a hands-on skills test, and a physical ability test will be administered. E-mail will be used for test scheduling and updates.

Role Type

This position requires work to be performed in the field and/or at the work site. PVGS employees may be called upon for random Fitness For Duty Testing during scheduled hours.
