Job summary

Lockport Steel is seeking a skilled Structural Steel Welder to join our fabrication team. You will weld structural steel components in accordance with shop drawings, specifications, and quality standards for commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects.

Qualified candidates will have MIG and FCAW experience, ability to read blueprints, and a commitment to safety and quality in a fast-paced shop environment. OSHA 10 or higher is preferred and AWS certifications are a plus.

Qualifications

• Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication specifications.
• MIG and FCAW welding on structural steel.
• Weld structural members, plates, columns, beams, stairs, railings, and miscellaneous metals.
• Set up welding equipment safely and efficiently.
• Verify dimensions and fit-up of materials before and after welding.
• Inspect welds to ensure quality and compliance with standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Follow OSHA safety policies and requirements.
• Collaborate with fabricators, fitters, and supervisors to meet production schedules.

Position Summary

Lockport Steel is seeking a skilled Structural Steel Welder to join our fabrication team. The Structural Steel Welder is responsible for welding structural steel components and assemblies in accordance with shop drawings, specifications, and quality standards. This position plays a critical role in producing structural steel products used in commercial, industrial, and infrastructure construction projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication specifications.
• Perform MIG and Flux Core (FCAW) welding on structural steel components.
• Weld structural members, plates, columns, beams, stairs, railings, and miscellaneous metals.
• Set up and operate welding equipment safely and efficiently.
• Verify dimensions and fit-up of materials before and after welding.
• Inspect welds to ensure compliance with quality and project requirements.
• Use grinders, cutting torches, and other fabrication tools as needed.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
• Collaborate with fabricators, fitters, and supervisors to meet production schedules.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of structural steel welding experience preferred.
• AWS Certified Welder (CW) certification preferred.
• AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code - Steel experience strongly preferred.
• Ability to weld in multiple positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead).
• Experience welding A36, A572, A992, and other structural steel materials.
• Familiarity with weld inspection requirements and visual quality standards.
• Forklift and overhead crane operation experience.
• OSHA 10-Hour Construction or General Industry certification preferred.
• Experience working in an AISC-certified structural steel fabrication facility is a

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach throughout the workday.
• Ability to work in a fabrication shop environment with exposure to heat, noise, dust, and welding fumes.
• Ability to wear required PPE, including welding helmet, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots.
